Flint Council Passes Landmark Medical Debt Relief Plan for Residents

FLINT, MI – After months of delays, the Flint City Council approved a proposal on Wednesday to reallocate $50,000 in ARPA funds to erase $32 million in medical debt for more than 10,000 Flint residents. In response, Rev. Monica M. Villarreal of Michigan United issued the following statement:

“Last night, the City Council made history by unanimously passing the medical debt relief proposal, taking a bold and transformative step to erase millions in medical debt for thousands of Flint residents. This decision reflects a commitment to lifting the financial burdens that have weighed down our community for far too long.

"We now look forward to the mayor’s signature to finalize this resolution and ensure that Flint families receive the relief they so urgently need. This victory demonstrates what is possible when leaders prioritize the well-being of their residents, and we are proud to see Flint take the lead on addressing this critical issue."
